How do you "get over" the loss of three young daughters, your mother, and your father in a fatal Christmas morning fire?
You don't. The best the survivor of that fire Madonna Badger, an advertising executive, can do is to continue to find peace of mind.
In addition, in the years after that fire in 2011 in Stamford, Connecticut, in Badger's life was also the loss of the girls' father Matthew Badger.
At the time of the fire, Madonna had been divorced from him. His death came a few years later from a heart attack. Iconic had been his face twisted in pain at his daughters' funeral. There were so many photos in the media of the funeral because of Madonna's prominence in the advertising industry.
Another death was that of Michael Borcina. He had been a contractor on that 1895 Victorian house on Shippan Avenue. He had died on cancer. Some blamed him for the fire. Like Madonna, he had been able escape the flames that morning. At the time they had been romantic partners.
After a hard first year or so, Madonna had been able to return to working. She has married a long-time friend. And she has established a foundation in her daughters' honor. Its mission is that the advertising industry will halt sexualizing females.
The house was leveled. Eventually the lot on Shippan Avenue was put up for sale.
May Madonna Badger make it through yet another holiday season with peace in her mind and heart.
I had awaken very early Christmas morning in Connecticut seven years ago. I had turned on the news. Immediately, I wondered how the mother could ever go on living. But, she did.
The tragedy would be followed by the fatal Petit home invasion.
Then there was the Newtown massacre of grade school children.
The state hasn't been able to shake off the darkness.
I relocated from it in April 2014.
