Ann Curry's story is resonating. So many of us professionals, especially women, relate to her rise and fall on "Today." In this upside-down economy too many of us wind up in the same kind of pickle, only in not so public a manner.
As the media such as NEW YORK Magazine reports, Curry is convinced she wasn't given enough time to create her presence on the early morning show. On the one hand, she is probably right. And we often have had the same lament after we got the boot from an assignment or a job. On the other hand, this brutal marketplace doesn't allow for excuses. And anyway, the person who replaced us did get it right, and usually from the get-go.
Maybe the way to heal from these disasters is simply to forgive ourselves and everyone else in the loop - and accept what is, without any emotional spin control. A useful guide on how to go about this is "Radical Acceptance" by Tara Brach. This could bring us through and to the other side of our setbacks.
