Television is a niche medium. The brand established by the personality is the brand that has to be maintained. There's no parachuting into other roles.
We saw that with Katie Couric and Jane Pauley. Another brutal example of that has been the floundering performance of foreign correspondent Christiane Amanpour on the domestically-orientd "This Week" on ABC.
That never did work. And now, reports Keach Hagey on POLITICO, it's over. At the end of the year, Amanpour will leave "This Week" and return to CNN International. She will also do foreign-reporting for ABC. We are happy she is returning to her position of strength - and credibility.
