« Think Tanks | Main | Hillary Can't Get the Kids To Play Nice »

It's been over 30 years since a boss has intimidated me, but I did want to mention a positive encounter. As you know, writing helps you meet a lot of people. I wrote about a man in a leadership position for several years and we became good friends. Politics soured against him and my writing could not prevent his downfall. He lost his job but it felt like he died. A year has passed, and just last month I met him again. He told me about his wife and kids, and all of the projects that he has kept busy with. He gave me a hug and the level of friendship and trust was just as strong as it had been years ago. Pay attention to the people who lift you up in life because it doesn't matter what job they hold or lose - the kindness, respect and friendship shine through

I have been wondering about the same thing. About to retire, having survived a career derailment, I have given some thought to the ways we react to people based on the roles they play or played in our past. Even the former bosses seem to buy into the notion that they will forever be your boss. It's ludicrous, but yet......

I will continue with my dreams of the day I encounter them in retirement and they attempt to denigrate me and I, well I, ah shit. I don't know what I will do.
