The Adversity-as-Career Enhancer Movement: Its Dark/Boring Side

The new wrinkle to the career game is to preach how adversity, ranging from getting fired to being passed over for a promotion, can give the victims a distinct career edge.  Well, that's an improvement over the more harsh - you learned a good lesson - that sidelined careerists used to get hammered with.  But, it has its dark side.

Miracle Insomnia Cure: Going to Bed Dressed for Work

Since I was 11 I hadn't been able to sleep - during the night.  I got by with catnaps during the day.  In 1987, I started a communications boutique specializing in executive and marketing communications which allowed me to catch a few winks when the sun rose instead of having to get up and start the commute to a conventional job.  Of course, I tried going to sleep at night.  Sometimes I did fall asleep.  But that very trying created another wrinkle in this sleep-disorder saga: I developed a phobia about getting in bed at night.

Curious Sex & The Upper Middle Class Man

It goes back to British BigWig John Profumo. His aberrant romp with call girls cost him his career.  Then there was the JFK sex follies. More recently we got wealthy Ivy educated Eliot Spitzer enmeshed with addictive sex with high-priced hookers.  Now it's the British-born head of global patents at Pfizer.  Arrested at JFK Airport Alan Hesketh is accused of allegedly receiving, possessing and distributing child pornography. Is there something in the upbringing or the value system [think entitlement] of the upper-middle class male which too often leads to strange and destructive sexual behavior? Perhaps it's just simple opportunity and the resources to take advantage of that.

Campaign08 has morphed into the Olympic Games of smart strategies, at least for the Dems.  Currently, it could be that Obama's smart strategies could outsmart Hillary.  If that happens, we women don't have to gasp.

Lindsay Lohan - Self-Destruction Is A Full-Time Job
