That was the firing today of U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Preet Bharara by the Trump Administration. Here are the details from Politico.
Time will tell if the man who had beoome famous with the slogan "You're Fired," will also find himself on the way to being fired for a pile up of erratic actions. Some of them could wind up being assessed as crossing the line from the typical bravado of the powerful to illegal.
Meanwhile, it's easy to assume that Bharara is receiving a growing number of job offers from BigLaw.
Abovethelaw's Joe Patrice tweets on that:
Which Biglaw firm just got 100% more Preet-ified? https://twitter.com/preetbharara/status/840645773985492992 …
This could turn out to become a classic case of The Revolving Door. However, it's likely that Bharara did not welcome being pushed toward and through that door. He had been passionate about his law and order mission.
Myriad Bharara watchers expect him to run for public office. His brand is powerful and his charisma high voltage. He may still do that.
The peril is that his profile could become lower as a partner in BigLaw.
But not necessarily. Superlawyers, such as David Boies at Boies Schiller, not only maintain a high profile. They seem to leverage their very presence as a message to the opposition to think many times before messing with their clients. Bharara could pull that off.
We English majors ponder if Donald Trump will merit the moniker of "tragic hero.?"
Currently his rants echo those of King Lear on the heath. Lear screamed out that he had been more sinned against than sinning. That sort of sums up The Donald's tweets.
