The conservative Drudge Report focuses on a future dominated by gigantic robots, including Amazon's Method-2. Here is the media coverage it links to.
At its annual invite-only MARS event, Amazon's head Jeff Bezos manipulated Method-2's lumbering movements. The stagecraft was brilliant.
Like Steve Jobs, Bezos understands the need to leverage theatre as a marketing tactic. The drama at MARS essentially was created by Method-2's huge size.
The visual effect, of course, is very scifi. One can anticipate a future in which these outsized robots go to war and the best technology wins. Right now, though, Method-2 is kind of cute, in the King Kong way.
Amazon has been rebranding as a high-tech enterprise. That's what gets attention. Not providing a platform to sell used books. Meanwhile, though, traditional booksellers like Barnes & Noble struggle to stay in business.
Amazon's cloud service also has been competitive with those of other high-tech companies.
In addition, on the side, Bezos operates a company for recreational space travel. Previously it had successfully launched space rocket New Shepard.
Bezos' BigStore online has mutated into making the future now. A promotional strategy. And potentially quite profitable.
