But he could take an irreversible hit to his political brand in the court of public opinion. Some speculate that the Bridgegate scandal had already taken from him his ability to run successfully to be U.S. President.
As The Wall Street Journal reports, in testimony during the Bridgegate trial, prosecution witness David Wildstein said that Christie laughed when informed how badly traffic was in gridlock for Fort Lee. Also, the Christie Administration refused to take the frustrated calls from Fort Lee Major, Mark Sokolich. He wanted to know why most of the lanes were blocked. According to Wildstein, who mastermined the gridlock, the motivation was to punish the Mayor for not politically supporting Christie.
However, Wildstein could be shot down as not an entirely credible witness. He entered into a plea deal and is doing all he can to reduce the penalty for this abuse of power. On the record, Christie denies any knowledge of the Fort Lee gridlock plan before it happened and when it was taking place.
Currently, Christie is overseeing the transition plans should Donald Trump win the White House. If the testimony in the trial continues to indicate what he know and when Trump could assess that he is a liability. And Christie will be dumped.
