Joan Rivers passed into the ages today at a bit after 1:00 P.M. New York time. Her profesional and personal lives were not easy. That might have been because her signature humor was ahead of its time.
In her time, female humor was wholesome and soft, e.g. Lucille Ball and Mary Tyler Moore. Rivers' comic thrust was more that of Lenny Bruce. Both men and women found that a difficult concept to absorb. But Rivers went on and made a big name for herself.
In her personal life, she had to deal with the suicide of her husband. That coincided with the cancellation of her show. She told the media that she had considered offing herself with a gun. At that point, her beloved dog jumped into her lap. She thought of the dog, not herself. She realized that the dog would have no one to care for it. So, she put down the gun and went on with life.
For those who believe in reincarnation, we hope that in her next life Rivers is a woman of her times, not ahead or behind them. She deserves a break.
This blog extends our sympathy to the Rivers' family.
