Along the Northeast Corridor they pay triple what I do for rent. Double what I do for car insurance. And at least 60-cents more for a gallon of gasoline. In addition, they can't go more than two hours without somone rattling their cage that they should be more successful, thinner, better connected and with a least one second home.
Yet, they have been contacting me with great glee about the supposed unbearable heat in Arizona. I moved here in April 2014. This is my first summer. Everyone who has emailed, called or texted has known what the exact temperature was at the time in Tucson.
They are disappointed when I give the standard answer: As a writer I spent the lion's share of my time in Connecticut indoors. As a writer I continue to spend the lion's share of my time indoors in Arizona. Three times a day I walk rescue dog Lee K. Otherwise both of us are in the air-conditioning, just as we would have been in another summer on the East Coast.
