Alice Roosevelt, daughther of President Teddy Roosevelt, probably was America's first celebrity. She loved blue, for example, and the smash fashion became the Alice Blue Gown.
Likely a lot of people hated her and had a right to. Being a First Daughter gave lifetime privileges way beyond those bestowed by wealth. Watching them grow up, marry, have kids and spend holidays in wonderous places becomes the national soap opera.
Along with that are the big career breaks. Sweet Caroline is the Ambassador to Japan. That's a job most of us didn't get an interview for.
Now it's Chelsea Clinton who is rubbing the nation raw. As this New York Magazine article points out she's picking up about $75,000 a speech. Also, we have to hear in the media about her pregnancy. If her mother runs for the U.S. presidency, there will be no end to the coverage of Chelsea and the Baby Bear.
Politico should have a contest. In 140 characters, tell which First Daughter we hate most and why.
Reflection: The Obama kids will likely get on our nerves too, soon enough.
