Jenny McCarthy will no longer be on "The View." Some media outlets, like the New York Post, are getting a kick of that.
But so many of us, including those not McCarthy fans, feel for her. That's because being fired has gone mainstream as a rite of passage. It's irrelevant if we got that way because of a large layoff or an individual screw-up. It's binary: Either you have the job or you don't have the job.
The first time we don't have the job we change. It's as much an internal and external paradigm shift as entering puberty. Innocence is gone.
Of course, McCarthy will land on her feet. We all manage to do that. But, it's a 21st century tragedy that being fired has essentially become inevitable.
