"I am a 27 year old Account Manager, with a Bachelor's in Business Administration and Marketing, but have a strong passion for writing." - "Selfie" on Craigslist, Connecticut section of New York Metro. Here is the entire pitch.
There are all versions of Selfies. And not all of them are photos. Among the kinds is the self-absorbed Millennial who pitches into the ether. With no connection to the prospect or any understanding of the sales process.
This odd attempt at selling is entirely self referential. The entire focus is, yes, on the self. Moreover, ha-ha-ha the whatever offering services doesn't realize that in the real world of money exchanged for getting a task done no one gives a damn about your passion. The only ones who do are likely those struggling to sell you services to supposedly improve your writing. There are so many of the advertisements, "Become an author."
Selfies don't only not sell. They wind up professionally isolated. People are scared away by their lack of knowledge of how the game has gotten played since caveman exchanged bear skin for the artist next door to paint something on the walls of his stone house.
