Everything changes, often more quickly in politics than other contexts. So, it's no surprise that, as Politico reports, the mood among influential Democrats has shifted around Hillary Clinton. Instead of framing her possible run for presidency as a sure win, they are recommending that she prove herself capable of being someone they will support. Here is that analysis in Politico.
"Proving" means getting out there and talking with the people. She will be as much on probation as all the other possible candidates, in both parties. Instead of leveraging her standard fare, she will have to scramble.
That includes test marketing a fresh tone, language and ideas. Whatever she settles into has to resonate with diverse constituencies. Those range from the party's kingmakers to independent voters such as myself here in Tucson, Arizona.
I demand Clinton, along with Jeb Bush etc., work hard to get my vote.
