Iconic for his unstoppable spirit, Mickey Rooney finally did surrender to death at age 93. Here is the coverage in the New York Post.
The tabloids had tracked his supposed decline. But none of us Baby Boomers who watched him at the Saturday movies wanted to believe it. He had always managed to get what he wanted when he wanted it. The classic example was, despite his size, he wound up with the pretty girls, ranging from Judy Garland to Elizabeth Taylor.
We figured Mickey didn't want to die. He seemed too full of life. But die he did. That's another loss of yet another star from our generation. Meanwhile we are also losing the real people. One day one of those real people will be us, of course.
