What Joshua Green reminds us of in Bloomberg Business Week is that Penn is a Machiavellian player. And that might be just what the stuck corporation needs. Its players won't be able to decode Penn's moves so they might have to put together a whole different game.
Green notes that Penn oversaw Hillary's disastrous presidential campaign. And that he did. But the whole enchilada was so flawed, especially its social media outreach, that no one person could possibly be totally responsible. Also, we recall Bill Clinton might have been throwing wrenches in the works. Here is Green's analysis.
Human beings tend to learn from adversity. Hillary certainly did, at least enough to mend fences with her opponent and become U.S. Secretary of State. The odds are that Penn has learned plenty too.
Let's give Penn the usual First 100 Days before we make any assessment if he could help or impede the Microsoft turnaround.
