It is totally predictable that a media outlet would dump on a politico who's already down. That's what Alec MacGillis does in the current issue of The New Republic. His target, of course, is Chris Christie. Here you can read all that negativity.
An analysis with more depth and the ability to create more buzz would have been to look at Christie's strengths and calculate the odds of a comeback. In my lifetime, politicos ranging from Richard Nixon to Bill Clinton have been able to put together at least one Next.
Human beings who can make it to the top once can usually do it again. That's why other media are focusing on indicators such as Christie's capability to fund raise for the GOP.
