Of course, as a global communications consultant, I monitor on the bottom of my laptop screen if there has been any activity on SKYPE. It's through SKYPE that more telecommuting gets done and there is less and less in-person (expensive travel costs) visits. Today, there was a message that I had received a message.
When I clicked into SKYPE, I was shocked. Then filled with rage.
There right in front of me was an advertisement from Zulily. The message was that the online merchant had women's apparel in all sizes. That kind of information is provided to fatties, not the size 2s who might also find it difficult to find clothes in their size. Also, the model is a porker.
Zulily likely wouldn't have invested in that ad placement had it now had data that I was one of those who rarely miss a meal. Of course, it could also been operating on the reality that many women are sized double-digits these days.
If SKYPE didn't know that I was fat before Zulily booked that ad space, it sure knows it now. And, from the neck up on SKYPE video I had assumed I had appeared not-fat. Had I been younger and as body conscious as I had been in my pre teens, late teens, 20s, 30s, 40s and even early 50s, I might be on the way to anorexia. I had a bout of that when I was 11.
