Like Kalinda on "The Good Wife," the character Anna on "Downton Abbey" has been a pull force in getting our attention. Both are enigmas. We wonder what goes on in Anna beneath that sweet submissive persona. No human being can be that good.
Now we speculate how Anna could become a disruptive force at the mansion. Typical for a victim of sexual assault, she has not talked about that Mr. Green raped her. Not even to her husband Mr. Bates. She wants to move back into the main house and out of their love nest. Upstairs they wonder why Anna is not herself.
It's possible and probable that Anna could veer so much from that usual self to undermine the smug order of things at Downton Abbey. The impact would be huge since she is a trusted known quantity. Who knows, she could become a political or social activist, deriding the elite way of life in public. With her journalistic know-how, Edith could join forces with her.
Such disruption would extend the shelf life of "Downton Abbey" in the U.S.
