Remember when instilling fear - as in pitching life insurance - was standard in the sales process? Then came the Internet where we could research the realities and the solutions. Also, we went through the traumas of 9/11 and two brutal recessions. No, we won't be bullied by salespeople.
Here is the tale of 2 email pitches for improving the reach of my three blogs, which are already syndicated. And, because they were started years ago and search engines reward longeviity, they receive high rankings.
One email was pure bully. It announced that my search engine optimization (SEO) was lousy. And I needed their help. Now. The legal writer in me raced to figure out what in the pitch could be unethical and/or illegal and what organization could I report that to. You bet, I was steamed.
Another mail was engaging. The tone was caring. Did I sense I could be attracting more business by approaching SEO in fresh ways? The pitch got my attention, for the right reasons.
Both technology and life have changed the sales process. None of us should ever have to put up with bullying. Those who need to sell in order to make a living better get that.
