The Christmas holidays will probably be only celebrated in nursing homes, come 2025. No one wants to take away the memory of happy times from those unable to build new memories.
But for younger generations, the days of high spirits will be the week off from work around Halloween. Even back in 2013, Halloween was the must holiday to celebrate in a big social way. That's where you got your photo taken with the movers and shakers, dressed in symbolic costumes.
The angst associated with Christmas and the need to have a family got to be too much. With so much of a shift to online purchases, brick and mortar retail had disappeared. So, there was no heavy lobbying to retain the tradtional Christmas season.
The week off around Halloween was open-ended. No one had to do anything "traditional." That included being with family, cooking up a storm, or doubling up at 12-step meetings. Some people played video games for the week. Some booked a commercial trip to space. Others continued going into work, for the same sorts of reasons they do now.
There was no nostalgia for Christmas Past.
