As a young woman from West Virginia, JoAnne Woodyard Boyle came to Seton Hill to study English. Aside from attending Harvard University for a Master's Degree, she never left. First she was a professor of English, then head of the English Department, and then president. On her watch the women's college blossomed into a coed university with 2,500 students.
JoAnne, who was my English professor and mentor at Seton Hill, loved every job she had there. But she developed into a leader as president.
The Seton Hill community and its many alumni are mourning her death Friday evening. She was 78. Here is the obituary.
