Influential TECH CRUNCH has covered the crash landing of Asiana Airlines plane in San Francisco. That's because, of course, that particular flight is one the tech crowd frequently travels. And, we are all focused on what the tech crowd is doing. What they are thinking. And how they frame events.
Suppose, though, a bunch of humanities scholars were aboard. They were on their way to a Modern Language Association (MLA) conference in San Francisco. How much would the media care? How much would we be interested?
Those in the humanities have yet to create the kind of narrative which compels us to value that tradition again. Even though I spent years in a doctoral program focused on literature and linguistics, I am convinced I could have learned more efficiently and acquired more marketable skills in another discipline.
