Will tourists consider checking if the Jersey Shore will be okay for vacationing? Or will they start looking elsewhere for summer reservations when they bump up against reports in the media such as this one which show the region as not at all okay post-Sandy?
Because of the ocean, summer tourism is big business for New Jersey. In itself it brings in major revenue. In addition, those who come for a week might decide to buy a second home or invest in vacation property.
Governor Chris Christie who reinforced his popularity before, during, and after Sandy has to use all his political magic to bring back the shore as functioning and convince the tourist business and its customers that it is. Consumption is based on habit and if people break their shore vacationing habit this summer they will likely develop a different one which doesn't include NJ.
