Amidst all the digital startups and advertising on social networks there is still a powerful place in business for the old-fashioned medium of the phone.
Today I spent time consulting in a call center and I will be back tomorrow and then again next week. Plenty of money is being made there because many customers want the reassurance of a human voice when they are buying. Also the human voice can save a customer account that is in trouble and prevent negative reviews and reports to consumer protection agency.
Mediums don't die out, at least not quickly. Some folks can boast about not having a TV in their homes. Yet many others still do have a TV and consume lots of network programming.
The very human tendency to overstate new developments can blind us to the career opportunities which are embedded in the staus quo.
