Dan Edelman, who went on to launch the Edelman Group, had a nose for what would get attention.
As Greg Hazley recounts on Odwyerpr.com, early in his career Dan created the Toni Twins gimmick for hairstyling products. He was the very first in the industry to dream up and implement the product tour. Hazley goes on to report:
"When a set of twins was arrested in Oklahoma for practicing cosmetology without a license, Dan called the Associated Press and made it a national story."
That sense of what makes for genius PR passed on through the genes. His son Richard at the firm he created was a pioneer in social media before many others even heard about the concept. Yeah, he even had a blog. That positioned the Edelman Group as the firm to go to for digital strategies and content. No surprise, it was Edelman which got the longed-for Twitter PR account.
And it's the Edelman Group which makes those presentations such as on the public trust at influential forums like the World Economic Forum in Davos. Odwyerpr.com is always headlining with yet another high profile speech Richard has delivered or an account Edelman has been awarded.
The big guy died peacefully in Chicago, at the age of 92.
