No fools, both Chris Christie and the GOP which needs him are aware how perilous it would be to even finetune the Christie brand. It could be the only entity capable of returning conservatives to the White House.
But, some brands need change. The Reader's Digest Inc. found that out. Before that so did Weight Watchers and Cadillac. As POLITICO reports, the Christie brand, if this New Jersey governor wants to remain a conservative leader on the national level, might have to put itself at the service of the party. After all, no man, even one as shrewd and outsized as Christie, is an island.
The challenge for Christie is to take on the protective coloring he needs to fit in with the tone and message of conservatives and yet not unnecessarily diluting his unique persona. That might be impossible. Christie might have to leave the GOP and became an independent.
