In New Jersey, all the cards Chris Christie is holding are good ones. No smart politico will challenge him as he runs for reelection as governor. That includes, we now find out from SLATE, Newark mayor Cory Booker. He will probably go for the U.S. Senate instead in 2014.
Booker's decision enhances his brand. Post Sandy, the timing isn't right to take on Christie.
