In Connecticut, the curtain is already going up on the 2014 elections. And the Democrats, reports POLITICO, are leveraging Mitt Romney's 18-point defeat in the state to tarnish all other members of the GOP considering running in the future. They are being tarred and feathered as out of touch rich people, like Romney.
As GOP Governor in New Jersey Chris Christie is showing, it's possible to establish one's own unique branding, separate from the umbrella party identity. He did that with his speech at the Republican National Convention. That was a Christie speech. Then he did it again when he took a walk on the bipartisan side with Barack Obama throughout the devastated parts of NJ, post Sandy.
Republicans here in CT need exactly that kind of "separatist" branding. Candidate for the U.S. Senate Linda McMahon experimented with that when she advised voters to split their ticket and cast their ballots for Obama and herself.
