In 2004, I found Toby Bloomberg's name on an American Marketing Association's ListServ. I knew I had to make the Great Leap Forward to digital. But I was 59. I was beyond terrified.
I reached out to Toby. In no time I was blogging. I was preaching the gospel of blogging at conferences around the U.S. I was paid to live-blog special events. Only later did I find out, when reading "Naked Conversations" by Robert Scoble and Shel Israel, that Toby was a major player in social media. Yes, she was in that book.
There's more. Toby remained in my corner. For example, a marketing consultant, she was in touch with all the movers and shakers. That's how I got to compete in contests. Among the ones I won had been first prize in ideas for marketing in the foodtruck industry. That award helped me nail down new lucrative assignments.
On Monday, Toby started as Director of Social Media Integration with Cox Media Group. She will be working with media properties such as TV, radio, and newspapers. This is her dream. From way back in the late 1990s she longed to participate in iTV.
Break a leg, Toby.
