Was the force that brought Mary Richardson and Bobby Kennedy together the real deal on the Kennedy curse? In NEWSWEEK we read the account of the doomed love affair by Lawrence Leamer.
From the get-go it appears that Richardson exhibited clear signs of severe mental disturbance. Yet, Bobby married her and remained with her to have four children. He had to had thought a bit about the genes he was passing on to the next generation. Those of us in families with psychiatric disorders recognize the high probably that a large number of members will be afflicted. For that reason I didn't have children.
The diagnosis put out there for Richardson is borderline personality. That's not a condition that can be kept under wraps. Kennedy knew her for years and years. Surely with all the women he could have built a life with and gave life to children, it seems like a tragedy in the making that he chose her.
