Convicted on 48 counts of sexual abuse of boys, Jerry Sandusky has become a metaphor for the peril of blind trust in those all too eager to help. Now we know. Human beings aren't put together to be so naturally altruistic. Anyone who reaches out aggressively to make a difference should be scrutinized for base motives.
As Shakespeare's dramas observed, there is much angelic about mankind. But all the history plays demonstrate that the dark side usually gets the upper hand.
Reflection: Parents who don't educate their children, both boys and girls, about being wary of those helping hands out there will likely be subject to action by child protective services.
