OWN could succeed if Oprah interrupted her Oprah persona and modus operandi. This is a starting over, just what Edie Falco had to do when "The Sopranos" ended and Steve Job mastered when he bounced back into Apple.
Right now, as BLOOMBERG BUSINESS WEEK reports, OWN is problem-ridden. It notes that media analyst at RBC Capital Markets David Banks is already referring to it as a failure.
The death watch would end abruptly if Oprah simply surrendered to the reality that she has to put together a second act. That whole Oprah personality and the technique of being a talk show host have to go. Remember how poorly the Oprah stuff played on the road trip when she crashed a wedding, overshadowing the bride? Oprah really only played in the sandbox marked Oprah.
The challenge is if a former star can turn off the twinkle in order to shoot into another orbit.
