The plot line is appropriate for this campaign season. An ambitious politico knows exactly how to read a troubled young man. A victim of a home invasion in which members of his family were killed, this man is manipulated into doing home invasions which are staged as done by men of color. When the team is engaged in trying to prevent him from murdering the politico's rival, Emily gets shot. This is the second time she has been wounded on the job. Fortunately she will recover.
The problem is that Morgan might not. He had been the team leader on this one and feels responsible. He was also the team leader when Emily had been almost fatally attacked by Doyle.
Emily gets Morgan to laugh it off but we don't believe he has emotionally resolved the situation. We also wonder if this second wounding will unhinge Emily. She had fallen apart a few episodes ago and told Hotchner she needed help. The FBI had made her see a therapist and the shrink had diagnosed that Emily hadn't mourned her own death as yet. Hotchner assessed that she was defending herself from feeling by being too much of a buddy to the members of the team.
We can probably count on a lot of emotional undercurrents and acting out in the rest of the episodes this season.
