There is a generational divide, actually two degrees of separation between we Baby Boomers and Generation Y. Some observe that the hostility among those degrees of separation has replaced the rancor among classes.
For the third time since 2006, I have been flamed by members of Generation Y. This time it was on the popular site GAWKER, where Ana Marie Cox used to write. Among other things, those commentators called me "an old lady." They're right. I am old. Had I acted my age I would have kept far away from the Gen Y sandbox. The last time I checked, they went on to flame someone else.
A few years ago, friends of a freshman at NYU who committed suicide attacked me on their Facebook sites and my blogs. By phone there were two death threats. I was not sympathetic with the act of suicide. It leaves behind too much emotional wreckage for survivors. They did not like that.
And six years ago, I tried to lead a discussion on Mediabistro.com. More than a 100 bits of poison seeped through. I take it they didn't like my tone. They were right not to like it since it's shaped by experience they're not ready for.
There are 76 million Baby Boomers I can hang with + members of the Silent Generation. With them I can act my age.
