Tonight was truly Alicia's rite of passage. In a case concerning a Chinese activist who had been tortured after the Internet provider released his name, Alicia gets to see 1) tricky Will and 2) the way the law operates close up. She isn't happy with what she sees. The attorney for the defendant picks up on this mood. She tells Alicia she isn't properly valued in the firm and offers her a job. For now, Alicia says no. However, that could become a yes if she continues to become heartsick about Will's values and the dirty game the law can be. For now, Will and Diane control the law firm, after a coup that kicked Derek out.
Meanwhile, Peter's political fortunes brighten. Thanks to some sleuthing by his son Zach and Becca, who wants to get into Zach's pants, information is turned up which forced Childs out of the race. Wendy is already wounded because of her own nannygate and youth love Peter. Yet, Peter could be voted in again.
Alicia says that would be okay with her, as long as things don't go back to the way they were. It was all Peter's movie and she was only a prop. The question is: Given how self-absorbed Peter is, can he be anything else than the selfish politico he had been? If he returns to his previous way of being in the marriage, will Alicia leave him? After tonight's episode we recognize that Alicia can't be read. She will be her own woman.
An awful reversal could be in store for Kalinda. Cary, who's still sweet on her, warns her that the Grand Jury is investigating her for possible corrupt practices. We know from sources such as Blake that there's plenty in her background that could have been illegal. We wonder if Kalinda will stay to fight in court or disappear? She may ask Alicia for help if she has to flee. Will Alicia reach out to Kalinda and risk her license?
