Yesterday at the New Haven Public Library's Main Branch on Elm Street, the line of us checking out books was so long that even the usually gravitas librarians broke a smile. "Who knows how long we will be snowed in." That's what one out of four were reporting, in the informal poll I took.
So, the print book isn't dead. The lion's share on line were checking out books, not DVDs of old movies. But clearly, there was a generational divide. No Generation Ys were in line. Not many Gen Xers either. Hunch: We 76 million Baby Boomers could keep the traditional book industry going for a while longer.
