In this age of media, particularly the digital kind, more are dying for attention - that is committing suicide in a sticky way. The latest seems to be Rutgers University student Tyler Clementi. He said his goodbye on Facebook before he took a leap off the George Washington Bridge. He had been video-taped having sex and that was live-streamed.
Had he not been hell-bent on dying for attention, he could have sued the video miscreants, publish a book or make a documentary on invasion of personal privacy, and lived a life of fortune and fame - eventually.
However, the pull of instant media attention might trump strategic planning.
