Watching others supposedly watching us kept most of us alienated in our youth. That same self-consciousness might be doing the same to the new generation of 18 to 34 group. In the UK, the Mental Health Foundation found that nearly 60% of those in that age bracket felt lonely often versus 35% of those over-55.
A gift of aging, at least for the lion's share of us, is that others might be watching us but we don't care. With enough adversity we have learned to accept ourselves and that we probably couldn't change or even want to change how others viewed us. My new book OVER-50: HOW WE KEEP WORKING discusses the edge age can give us in the workplace and in life.
