Is this toughness posturing before the coming crisis of the unsealed court documents on Catholic clergy sex abuse?
Today, U.S. Patrick Kennedy reports that the Catholic Bishop Thomas Tobin told him not to take the sacrament of communion. That is, says the AP coverage of this, because of Kennedy's policy positions that conflict with Catholic dogma. One of them is his pro-abortion stance. Kennedy didn't say if he is complying with Tobin's order or not.
If this is a public relations strategy on the part of the Catholic Church I wonder what PR expert or agency is doing the advising. Kennedy right now is hot. Public sympathy is with him after the death of his father. And he's obviously going places where the church could use his help.

the catholic church should stay out of politics and pay more attention to its own problems. as a former catholic i am appalled at the lax attitude about misconduct of clergy and their haste to cover it up. out here in the real world we are held accountable for our actions, just remember we're watching

Tobin's pro child molesting priest and anti woman stance is sickening and unpatriotic.
This kind of meddling in US politics is a direct and deliberate violation of the Roman Catholic Church's tax exempt status. The IRS is legally obligated to revoke it immediately.
This also is a direct violation of the sovereignty of the United States of America by the Vatican. President Obama should break off diplomatic relations with the hateful dictatorship and ban all travel of its foreign representatives to this country.
If Russia, Turkey, or Chile deliberately interfered in our politics this way, there would be justified national outrage. The Vatican should be the target of just as much outrage.

In the tradition of his Uncle, Jack Kennedy, this young man, Patrick, was not voted into his position by the church, but by the people. The people should stand behind him to support the Constitution which requires separation of church and state. As a public official, he is committed to vote to allow equal rights to all. That is what I most admire about my public officials - the fact that they have the intestinal fortitude to stand up to the pressure cookers. HANG IN THERE, PATRICK.

How cool it is that the Kennedy's (and other Democrats) call themselves "Catholic" but do not believe or support any of the same things as the Church. Good for the Catholic Church enough turning the other check
