Gannett is laying off1000 to 2000. Since its business is newspapers, those getting the ax "shoulda seen it coming?" If they did they were unusual. Like the diverse victims of the Bernard Madoff con taught us: It's human to feel special or to want to feel special. That's the weakness he tapped into in human nature. The former employees at Gannett had to assume they were special and invulnerable to the inevitable. At least the majority of them.
