There was a time when greats like Johnny Carson had the sense and strength to leave the spotlight, when they were on top. Now it's no country for the Carsons. Anyone who had been great or still wants to achieve greatness won't budge off their particular stage.
Nothing wrong with defying a number to shape a career. However, the numbers seem to be against many of these geezers who keep hanging on.





I agree, but there are many in the public eye who continue to prosper in their geezeryears. TV and movies are filled with 'em. As are governments. And musicians. And, in lesser visibility, the trades. It's the economy...
