Liberal icon Nat Hentoff has been laid off at THE VILLAGE VOICE. His writing was a brand within the THE VILLAGE VOICE bigger branding for provocative, edgy points of view. Hentoff was especially known for his writing on civil-liberties issues.
Although regrettable, this is understandable. Traditional media are having a rough time trying to remain profitable as free digital content keeps stealing eyeballs. Fortunately, Hentoff has plenty of other writing gigs going on.
