"Desperate Housewives" - Wisteria Lane Grows Up
This season the girls on Wisteria Lane have grown-up problems. Instead of scheming with each other et al. for male attention, status, and more money, they are struggling to survive.
Gabby and Carlos are reduced to near-poverty, so much so that he has to eat their social standing and work at the country club. Since that makes Carlos "staff" at the club as he gives his massages, the family will be excluded from much of the activities they enjoyed before. Gabby looks as bad as times have gotten.
A newly confident Bree, who operates a successful catering service, probably has outgrown her co-dependency on men. Yet, one still lives in her house. She took Olson back. Since he's a jailbird, his existence adds no value to her new life. How can he be gotten rid of?
Edie wants to be reborn as respectable but that's unlikely to happen. The man she's with seems as shady as they come. Mrs. M has started to check him out of the Internet.
Susan might have overplayed her hand with men. She's a mother of a young boy and not getting any younger yet she's stuck with two ex-husbands and a toy boy around the house. This is getting old. It's likely she will have to be shunned for refusing to, well, grow up.
Lynette has all the problems any mother of teenagers have plus a mate who is as goofy as he was five years ago. Something has to give in that household and it could be a divorce. Lynette needs some pleasure and it ain't in the cards in life on Wisteria Lane.
No question, the darkness will only increase this season. It has to if the show is to continue to attract viewers. With the national and our personal economic affairs tanking, none of us want to see frivolous women with trim girlish figures and no seeming financial woes flitting about. They must be made to suffer.
