Oprah, Imus, Even Blogger Me - The Media's Scary Power

Comic Chris Rock, after insulting Gayle King with his stand-up act, spotted Oprah's BFF storming out.  He quipped and it was no joke this time, "I'm sorry! [to King as she exited] If y'all don't see me again, Oprah did it!" Now back on the air, Imus will get those who hadn't supported him during the "ho" crisis. And even with my two syndicated blogs - here's the other - people ask me for favors and fear my displeasure.

We decry the Bush Administration's power.  But the media may even have more since with digital technology, there are billions of members of the media.

Cheap Rudy Worse than Rudy the Crook

Is Rudy finished?  Gotcha THE NEW YORK POST had the former mayor and his now wife on the cover.  And on all the websites there are updates on the Cheap or Crook Rudy story.  The latest is that when Mayor he had the NYPD drive his mistress around.  In the heartland and staid New England it might be the possible crime involved in billing his affair to the city.  But here in the Manhattan Metro area what bothers us is how cheap Rudy was in paying for his and his "girlfriend's" dates. 

Writers Who Love Writing Too Much

Good writers cast spells.  And then that process of writing winds up casting a spell of us.  No matter how glutted every category in writing gets, we do whatever it takes - including living a life of few creature comforts - to be able to write and not do much more.

I opened Pandora's box on my legal blog.  It all started out when some recent underemployed/unemployed law graduates contacted me for job coaching.  Knowing they were already carrying about$100,000 debt in student loans, I tried to talk them out of the need for coaching.  First, I told them, I would write a few how-tos on my legal blog about how to get a good job, law-related or not, that would put them on a career path and start paying off those loans.  Fair enough, they said.

"CSI: Miami" - Rich Get Raw Deal Tonight

Talk about wallowing in cliches.  Tonight's episode of "CSI: Miami" focuses on the very rich - so rich that the family has not one but two nannies.  One of the nannies gets offed and so the plot begins.  As the hard-working middle-income [except it was pointed out Callie did come from money but since her father is an active alcoholic I guess the show lets her off the hook for that] CSI team hunts for the murderer we get a peek into the extreme dysfunction of the family. 

Is "Desperate Housewives" a Morality Tale

Sunday's dark episode of "Desperate Housewives" brought home to me that this seeming ball of fluff might be a morality tale.  In the episode those manipulative, greedy, and self-absorbed housewives - Gabby and Susan - both got backed into a corner. 

We Just Blew Ourselves Up - Now What?

Drama is in, at least in careers.  We're not going much for simple career change.  No, we are blowing ourselves up.  We want a fresh start, a blank slate, a different everything.  I know.  Forty-nine months ago I did just that.  Out with the old.  And then is where I got stuck. 

"Desperate Housewives" - Victor Is Alive

On "Desperate Housewives," Victor shows up alive and he remembers exactly what happened.  He's not telling the cops to have complete control over Gabby and Carlos from now on.  There's more horror.
