A very clever book just came out: "The 101 Most Influential People Who Never Lived." It's by three offbeat thinkers - Allan Lazar, Dan Karlan and Jeremy Slater. And it deconstructs the folks from Ancient Times to the present who have managed to embed themselves in our collective memory bank, even though they are fictional. Unfortunately, the book has been published in 2006 so it isn't up-to-the-minute on who's in our hearts and minds, although not real. Also, some of us might not agree with the authors' designations about who's influential and who isn't. For example, they include Santa Claus. I wouldn't.
