George Lakoff is Wrong -Wordbending Won't Help Democrats

Linguist and author of "Don't Think of an Elephant: Know Your Values and Frame the Debate" George Lakoff has sold the desperate Democrats on the notion that if they just engage in word-play they will return to the Promised Land.  So, the Dems should be coining terms like "public-protection attorneys" to wipe out the negative feelings surrounding "trial lawyers."  Yeah, sure.

Corporate America has tried that wordbending with terms such as "downsizing," "customer care," and "value." All that did was kill off loyalty in employees, give rise to cartoons like "Dilbert" and make customers wary and annoyed.

Language is what makes us human.  That's why we treasure it, love it, protect it and stick with what works for us.  Take profanity.  Those four-letter expletives live on and on and keep delivering the same message because there's no wordbending.  Through use, we folks have voted to make s__t designate something we don't like.  Same for most of the rest of our other four-letter friends.

Dems, be prepared to be laughed at when you start calling trial lawyers "public-protection attorneys."  Then you'll not only be yesterday but ridiculous.
